Portugal green hydrogen news - Portugal’s green hydrogen pipelines will integrate Europe’s Green Energy Corridor to Central Europe and will be funded by the EU as Projects of Common Interest.

Portugal has just received EU approval for funding two structural green hydrogen transport projects that will be part of the EU Green Energy Corridor. Portuguese hydrogen transport projects, 'H2Med/CelZa' and the 'Portuguese Hydrogen Backbone' will be funded under the EU Connecting Europe Facility – Energy (CEF-E), which could support up to 75% of eligible costs.

An investment of EUR 204 million will fund 242 km of pipelines, of which 162 km will be in Portugal under the 'H2Med/CelZa' project submitted by REN-Gasodutos. Portugal’s green hydrogen pipelines will connect with the Spain-France pipeline, the H2Med/BarMar, that will in turn connect with the France-Germany pipeline.

Portugal’s green hydrogen pipelines will connect the country to Central Europe and will enable the emergence of one of the main green hydrogen corridors across the Mediterranean.
