Portugal investment news - Stellantis will produce electric vehicles in Portugal and will invest 119 million euros to manufacture four fully electric models.

The Stellantis factory in Central Portugal is the best factory in Europe in terms of quality and cost. This is why Portugal has been chosen by Stellantis as a hub for manufacturing electric vehicles (EVs), with production starting in 2024.

Stellantis Portugal will be the first Portuguese factory to produce electric cars and will produce fully electric vans for the brands Citroën, Fiat, Opel, and Peugeot. The car models that will be produced in Portugal include Citroën ë-Berlingo, Peugeot e-Partner, Opel Combo-e and Fiat e-Doblò models, in the light commercial and passenger versions.

2023 was an especially important year for Stellantis in Portugal, with its factory in Mangualde achieving the best production year in its history, increasing by 10% and reaching an output of over 78,000 vehicles for the first time in its history.

The multinational will invest in extending the existing factory that is located in Mangualde in the district of Viseu, with new facilities for assembly lines, including a new battery assembly line. The factory should produce 50,000 electric vehicles per year.

Stellantis expects that 100% of sales in Europe and 50% of sales in the US will be for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by the end of this decade. This is why the multinational will offer more than 75 battery electric vehicle models and expects to reach global annual BEV sales of 5 million units by 2030.
