Blockchain is used to accelerate Portugal´s energy transition through the following solutions:
1 - Portugal´s Greencoin Smart City platform
Portugal´s Greencoin Smart City platform, designed to encourage sustainable behaviors through a digital reward system associated with the use of renewable energy and the reduction of carbon footprint.
2 - Portugal´s Carbon Emissions Platform
Portugal´s Carbon Emissions Platform, which enables real-time monitoring of emissions through the integration of data from multiple sources, including IoT devices, and also integrates a license marketplace aligned with the European Union’s Emissions Transaction Register.
3 - Portugal´s Blockchain in a Box
Portugal´s Blockchain in a Box, a solution that combines energy production and blockchain technology and will serve as the basis for a large-scale pilot project in Portugal´s Western Region, involving 12 municipalities and three solar parks.
Blockchain is used to accelerate Portugal´s energy transition within the framework of Work Package 3 "Sustainable Development and Smart Territories", led by CELFOCUS, which brought together academic, technological and municipal entities, including NOVA IMS, NOVA SBE, Bee2Solutions and the municipalities of Cascais and Fundão, in an investment of 4,03 million euros with a support of about 3.20 million from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

Portugal focused on the application of blockchain technology to energy transition, circular economy and smart urban management, exploring solutions for areas such as renewable energy communities, municipal waste, integrated mobility and carbon monitoring.
