Portugal Space news - Copernicus just released an image of a solar plant in Portugal as image of the day on December 11th, 2023.

The Copernicus image seeks to honor the success of Portugal’s renewable energy sector that was demonstrated at the beginning of November 2023, when the country met its domestic and industrial energy needs for almost a week using only solar and wind power.

The Copernicus image was acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on November 12th and shows the solar plant of Alcoutim, the largest of the country.

Located in the south-eastern region of Portugal, the Alcoutim solar plant plays a pivotal role in the country's renewable energy sector and contributes significantly to Portugal's goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting green energy.

Copernicus provides quality-assured data tailored to the need of the energy sector including the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service that delivers data on solar radiation to support the planning and management of installations.
