DSTelecom signs a 30 million euros contract with Portugal

Telecommunications News Europe - DSTelecom signed a 30 million euros contract with Portugal for the installation of a fiber optic network throughout the national territory, according to an announcement by the Government of Portugal dated July 6th, 2026:
DSTelecom signed contracts with the Government of Portugal for the installation, management, operation, and maintenance of Very High-Capacity Electronic Communications Networks, in a ceremony attended by the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida; by the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, and by the five Chairs of the Regional Coordination and Development Commissions.
dstelecom is a Portuguese telecommunications company headquartered in Braga. The company is set to build, operate and maintain the first and largest multi-operator fiber optic network in Europe. The main telecommunications operators operating in Portugal are customers of the dstelecom network that is currently on track to bring fiber optics to 1 million families and thus continue to reduce regional disparities in the the digital sector.
“We are not just launching an infrastructure. We are reinforcing a national vision. National development will never be complete as long as there are territories left out of the major economic, technological, and social transformations of their time” - Portugal´s Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Castro Almeida.
The telecommunications contracts signed between DSTelecom and the Government of Portugal are part of the National Strategy for Connectivity in Very High Capacity Electronic Communications Networks 2023-2030, which aims to guarantee access to a Gigabit network for the entire population by 2030.
Portugal´s investment in the installation of a fiber optic network throughout the national territory foresees a public contribution of approximately 30 million euros, divided between the ERDF (Portugal 2030) and national public expenditure from the 5G license auction.
