Billionaire news – This is how to become a billionaire today and how to become a billionaire in the future, according to the Knight Frank Wealth Report 2025:
The amount of wealth held by billionaires in the US reaches US$5.7 trillion, and a detailed analysis of the 2,700+ billionaires in the Forbes’ list provides a checklist of what it takes to surpass the nine-figure wealth mark and become part of the billionaire club.
Here are the two checklists of how to become a billionaire today in 2025 and how to become a billionaire in the future:
1 - How to become a billionaire in 2025?
A) These are the industries that produce billionaires in 2025:
1) The Tech industry:
The billionaires of today made their fortune predominantly in the Tech industry. Tech dominates in terms of total wealth, with US$2.6 trillion spread across 342 billionaires. Nine tech billionaires surpass US$50 billion each – more than any other industry.
2) The Financial sector:
Finance and Investment account for 427 billionaires on Forbes’ list, including Warren Buffett and Michael Bloomberg.
3) The Fashion & Retail industry:
The Fashion and Retail sectors follow, with six billionaires in the US$50 billion-plus range.
B) These are the characteristics that produce billionaires in 2025:
1) Mostly males in their mid-60s
Men represent 87% of billionaires in 2025, holding around US$12.4 trillion.
Women account for just 13% of the list and hold US$1.78 trillion. The richest woman, L’Oréal heiress Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, is worth US$99.5 billion, ranking 15th globally. The richest self-made woman, Rafaela Aponte-Diamant, is 48th with US$33.1 billion. Female billionaires have grown from 10% to 13% over a decade, yet the gender wealth gap persists.
Wealth accumulation is a long-term pursuit, no matter what the sector. The average billionaire age in 2024 was 65.7, up from 63.3 in 2014 and higher than the 10-year average of 64. Tech billionaires, the youngest of the bunch, average 57.2 years. Only four industries have an average age under 65.
C) These are the geographical locations that produce the most billionaires in 2025:
Billionaires in 2025 are primarily based in the United States. The US dominates, with 30% of billionaires and 40% of total billionaire wealth, reaching a 10-year high. The US has extended its lead over runner-up China, whose 406 billionaires have seen their share of billionaire wealth fall below 10%.
2 - How to become a billionaire in the future?
A) These are the industries that will produce billionaires in the future:
1) The Manufacturing industry:
The Manufacturing industry is outpacing the Tech industry in the creation of new billionaires. The manufacturing industry has produced more new billionaires than the Tech sector over the past 10 years, and half of them are located in China, reflecting the nation’s industrial strength.
Despite recent challenges, China also leads in the creation of new tech billionaires over the same period.
2) The Fashion industry
B) These are the characteristics that will produce billionaires in the future:
Future billionaires are increasingly likely to be female, especially among younger billionaires. Future billionaires are also going to be young, as older generations pass on their wealth.
The new generation of billionaires is more gender-balanced than before. In 2024, over 82% of new billionaires were male, down from 90% four years ago. Of the billionaires under 30, nearly 47% were female last year, potentially pointing the way to a more balanced future.
C) These are the geographical locations that will produce the most billionaires in the future:
Future billionaires will not be concentrated in a geographical region as they will be more global, reflecting a connected economy.
The billionaire landscape is now more global, with new hubs emerging outside the traditional powerhouses. Geopolitical shifts will always influence wealth creation. India, where the billionaire population grew 12% from 2023 to 2024, now hosts 191 billionaires, 26 of them created within the past year – up from just seven in 2019. France, Brazil, and Russia are also seeing a significant increase in the number of billionaires.
