Portugal investment news - Santander is included in the Fortune Magazine list of the World’s Most Admired Companies and ranks 7th most admired bank in the world. See what is the best and safest bank in Portugal:
Santander, that serves 165 million customers across Europe and the Americas, registered record profits of 11.1 billion euros in 2023, that is 15% higher than in 2022. The Santander group headquarters are in Spain and the Banco Santander brand is particularly strong in the Eurozone.
In Portugal, Banco Santander Totta is a subsidiary of the Santander group. Santander Portugal is the country’s largest privately owned bank in terms of assets and domestic loans and advances to customers.
Santander Portugal registered 896 million euros underlying attributable profit and has a return on tangible equity (RoTE) of 25.9%. The record profits obtained by Santander Portugal represent an increase of 67.9% compared to 2022. This is a higher percentage increase than in Spain where Santander registered an increase in profits of 52%. Santander Portugal has a network of 376 branches throughout Portugal that serve 2.9 million customers.
The Santander brand was recognized as the most valuable Spanish brand worldwide in the 2024 ranking of Brand Finance Global 500. The brand was also included in the ranking of the Best Global Brands 2023 produced by Interbrand.
