Defence News Europe - The BEAST (Boosting European Advanced Missile System Technologie) is a European missile system that is being developed with an EU investment of 34,940,299.21 euros and includes a consortium of 12 countries as per the list of companies below:

The BEAST missile project aims to develop a modular Future Short-Range Missile (FSRM) for versatile multi-role use in air-to-air, ground-based air defence, and air-to-ground operations.

The BEAST project is due to start in the last quarter of 2025 and has a development horizon of three years, until the end of 2028.

The European BEAST missile system includes Portuguese AI technology developed by Critical Software. The technology includes a machine learning operations platform with the aim of automating the implementation of AI models in the missile system's main software to simplify workflows. This will reduce human errors and accelerate the development and updating of AI-based components, according to João Pedro Mortágua, senior director of business development at Critical Software, who added: “This project is very much in line with the logic of defending European citizens and not at all about promoting attacks or deaths.”
