Rare Earths News – Here are the Top 10 countries with the largest rare earths reserves in 2025 and their rare earths mine production per country with figures updated for 2025, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
Why do the USGS figures show huge discrepencies for the rare earths reserves of Vietnam and Russia between 2024 & 2025?
The revised figures by the USGS moved Vietnam from ranking 2nd Top country in the world with the largest rare earth reserves in 2024 with 22 million tons to rank 6th country with rare earths reserves of only 3.5 million tons in 2025. The USGS also revised figures for Russia showing rare earths reserves of 10 million tons in 2024 and now show rare earths reserves of only 3.8 million tons in 2025.
What are Rare Earths and what are their uses?
Rare earths are a relatively abundant group of 17 elements that are iron gray or silvery lustrous metals that are typically malleable, ductile and usually reactive, especially at elevated temperatures or when finely divided. The main uses of rare earths are for mobile phones, batteries, electric vehicles, in metallurgical applications and alloys.
