Madeira island has just been named Europe’s Best Cruise Destination 2023 by World Cruise Awards.
Portugal has obtained the award of Europe’s Best Cruise Destination in 2021, 2022 and 2023. While Lisbon was the best cruise destination in Europe in 2021, Madeira has obtained the crown for 2 years in a row. Madeira is thus considered better than a selection of the best European cruise destinations including Athens, Barcelona, Monte Carlo, and Nice.
The Ports of Madeira have registered a remarkable increase in the number of cruise passengers in 2023, with a growth rate of 104% compared to the previous period. A total of 557,824 cruise passengers have visited Madeira during the 2022-2023 season.
The port of Funchal in Madeira has a passenger terminal with excellent conditions to receive comfortably and safely the hundreds of thousands of cruise travelers who visit the region each year. Due to its location, it has privileged access to the city center that is just a two-minute drive from the main attractions, thus allowing travelers the possibility of exploring the capital of the archipelago in a short space of time.
