Marketing news - Teddy Bear brings comfort to every little child lucky enough to have one, but who invented Teddy Bear?
Â
Teddy Bear’s origins come from a poignant story when, in the beginning of the 20th Century, an American President named Teddy (Theodore Roosevelt Jr.) refused to shoot a bear during a hunting trip.
Â
This event led to a cartoon by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Clifford K. Berryman depicting American president Theodore Roosevelt - called "Teddy" - having compassion for a bear at the end of a merciful hunting trip in Mississippi in 1902.
Â
Jewish couple Morris and Rose Michtom decided to immortalize his compassionate behavior by creating a stuffed bear that quickly captured the hearts of every young American. For, as soon as Michtom saw the drawing, he created a tiny plush bear cub which he sent to Roosevelt to immortalize his act of mercy, before creating another plush bear that he placed in his shop window with a sign "Teddy's bear."
Â
When Teddy Bear was placed in the Jewish couple’s candy shop window, the cozy little bear became so beloved that he led to the creation of a toy company, and very soon Teddy Bear became every child’s source of comfort in every country in the world until this very day.
Â
And what is little known by every person who cherished Teddy Bear, is that the symbol of compassion that brings so much comfort to children, the original Teddy Bear gifted by the Jewish couple to President Roosevelt, is now safely kept in the Smithsonian Museum, the National Museum of American History.
