The regions in Portugal and Spain affected by Wildfires in 2026 are northern and eastern Portugal and the neighboring province of Zamora in western Spain where several wildfires broke out between July 27-29, 2026.
Wildfires in Portugal affected homes near the Valpaços municipality, disrupted traffic near the PÃnzio municipality, including the closure of the A25 motorway, and prompted the precautionary evacuation of around 800 people from 14 localities as a consequence of the fire near the Fermoselle municipality in Spain.
The images of wildfires on the Portugal - Spain border are false-color images taken on July 29, 2026, by the Copernicus Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B satellites. The Wildfire images show three affected areas near Valpaços (image 1), PÃnzio (image 2), and Fermoselle (image 3). Healthy vegetation appears red, while burn scars are visible in dark brown and black. Pale blue-grey smoke extends from active fire fronts, which appear bright orange.
Copernicus Sentinel-2 data help map areas burnt by wildfires and support authorities in assessing impacts on communities, vegetation, transport networks, and other infrastructure.
