EU Digital Identity Wallet news – Here are the countries implementing EU digital identity (EUDI) wallets in 2025 with what is included in each country’s digital ID wallet, as well as what is the EU Digital ID wallet and its advantages:

 

 

1)  Countries implementing EU Digital Identity wallets in 2025:

 

 

1 – France


France was one of the first countries to launch its European Digital Identity Wallet “France Identité”. It may be downloaded on Google Play and on the Apple App Store.

 

The French digital identity wallet has the following 8 components:

Accessing Government services, opening a bank account, SIM registration, mobile driver’s license, signing contracts, claiming prescriptions, NOBID for payments, as well as the Organizational Digital ID under the EWC consortium.

 

 

2 – Finland


The pilot projects for the European Digital Identity Wallet were launched in Finland and Europe in 2023 with the POTENTIAL consortium that includes 19 EU countries and Ukraine.

 

The Finland Digital Identity Wallet includes FINeID, BankID and Mobile ID.

 

The Finland digital identity wallet has the following 4 components:

Accessing Government services, mobile driver’s license, as well as the Organizational Digital ID and Travel under the EWC consortium.

 

 

3 - Sweden


The Swedish Digital Identity Wallet includes Bank ID, AB Svenska Pass, e-Legitimation (Telia) and Freja eID+.   

 

The Swedish digital identity wallet has the following 3 components:

NOBID for payments, as well as the Organizational Digital ID under the EWC consortium, and the Education Certification under the DC4EU consortium.

 

 

4 - Denmark


The Danish Digital Identity Wallet includes MitID eID.

 

The Danish digital identity wallet has the following 3 components:

NOBID for payments, as well as Education Certification and Social Security Benefits under the DC4EU consortium.

 

 

5 – Norway


The Norwegian Digital Identity Wallet includes BankID.

 

The Norwegian digital identity wallet has the following 3 components:

NOBID for payments, as well as the Organizational Digital ID under the EWC consortium and Education Certification under the DC4EU consortium.

 

 

6 – Slovenia


The Slovenian Digital Identity Wallet includes a Smartcard ID and a mobile ID as well as electronic certificates.

 

The Slovenian digital identity wallet has the following 4 components:

Accessing Government services, opening a bank account, signing contracts as well as Education Certification under the DC4EU consortium.



7 – Netherlands


The Dutch Digital Identity Wallet includes DigID.

 

The Netherlands digital identity wallet has the following 6 components:

Accessing Government services, SIM registration, mobile driver’s license, NOBID for payments, as well as the Organizational Digital ID under the EWC consortium and Social Security Benefits under the DC4EU consortium.

 

 

8 – Luxembourg


The Luxembourg Digital Identity Wallet includes LuxTrust.

 

The Luxembourg digital identity wallet has the following 7 components:

Accessing Government services, opening a bank account, SIM registration, mobile driver’s license, signing contracts, Travel under the EWC consortium, as well as Education Certification under the DC4EU consortium.

 

 

9 – Greece


The Greek Digital Identity Wallet includes the ERMIS Portal, and the National ID smartcard.

 

The Greece digital identity wallet has the following 9 components:

Accessing Government services, opening a bank account, SIM registration, mobile driver’s license, signing contracts, claiming prescriptions, the Organizational Digital ID and Travel under the EWC consortium, as well as Education Certification under the DC4EU consortium.

 

 

10 – Germany


The German digital identity wallet has the following 9 components:

Accessing Government services, opening a bank account, SIM registration, mobile driver’s license, signing contracts, NOBID for payments, as well as the Organizational Digital ID and Travel under the EWC consortium, and Education Certification under the DC4EU consortium.



2)  What is the EU digital ID wallet?

 

The EU digital ID wallet entered into force on 20 May 2024, following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The first Member State wallets are made available by January 2025 and both Public and Private Services are legally bound to accept the EU Digital Identity Wallet for Authentication in all EU member states in 2026.

 

The EU digital ID wallet is an official Government app for EU citizens, businesses and residents. It will enable users to access online and offline public and private services, store and share digital documents, and create binding signatures.

 

Member States will make wallets available to every citizen, resident and business by the end of 2026. Citizens should be able to carry their digital identity with them across the EU, moving seamlessly across borders without ever losing control of their data, with privacy and security at the heart of the project.

 

 

3)  What are the advantages of the EU digital ID wallet?


  • To prove your identity,

  • To securely store various documents in your wallet – including your driver’s license, university diploma, and income statement,

  • To share stored documents from your wallet. For example, to provide a copy of your credentials to a potential employer or to ask for a bank loan

  • To quickly and easily make legally binding e-signatures with your wallet

  • It will be valid across all EU borders
