Open Cosmos raises €300 million for next-gen satellites

Space News Europe - Open Cosmos raises 300 million euros for next-generation satellites with its Open Constellation satellites, which consist of a shared constellation with the aim of reducing the delivery time of Earth observation to 30 minutes instead of 48 hours.
British satellite company Open Cosmos, that has a presence in Portugal, Spain and Greece, just raised 300 million euros in a funding round led by Lightrock and the Institut Català de Finances, that are two large international pension funds, with the participation of three Portuguese investors: Iberis Capital, Shilling VC, and Amena Ventures.
Over the past decade, Open Cosmos has grown into one of Europe’s leading satellite manufacturers, with the capacity to manufacture one satellite a day across their four European factories. Open Cosmos has signed more than USD 370 million in new contracts over the last three and a half years.
With this new investment, Open Cosmos is ready for the next phase, that is to put more satellites into orbit, deliver intelligence faster and expand secure connectivity around the world.
From detecting wildfires and monitoring critical infrastructure to providing resilient connectivity when terrestrial networks are unavailable, Open Cosmos is building space infrastructure that turns information from orbit into intelligence people can act on.
In Portugal, Open Cosmos has a factory in Coimbra, in Central Portugal, since 2025 when it acquired Connected, showing Portugal´s growth trajectory in the Space sector:
"Open Cosmos is today one of the clearest examples of this trajectory, with an industrial presence in Coimbra that integrates satellites for European missions and is linked to Coimbra Supernova, an initiative that aims to consolidate the region as a reference point in the space value chain. The increased investment in companies with this execution capacity confirms that Portugal has the talent, infrastructure and environment to welcome global players in the sector, and that this presence generates value far beyond each company, qualifying suppliers, attracting investment and creating highly specialized jobs," - Ricardo Conde, Portugal Space.
