Nature gave us a total solar eclipse of August 12th, 2026, that could be best seen from Coruña in Spain. However, the European Space Agency - ESA Proba-3 mission can keep producing artificial total solar eclipses, according to Portuguese Space company TEKEVER.
While natural total solar eclipses give scientists just a few minutes to observe the Sun’s corona, the ESA Proba-3 mission can create artificial solar eclipses lasting up to 6 hours for scientific study.
How can the TEKEVER technology create artificial solar eclipses lasting 6 hours?
In order to create artificial solar eclipses lasting up to 6 hours, two spacecraft need to fly around 150 metres apart with the extraordinary precision that is made possible using the TEKEVER GAMALINK technology. The Occulter satellite then blocks the Sun for the Coronagraph spacecraft to perform scientific studies, by creating a controlled shadow that reveals the normally hidden corona for up to six hours at a time.
