Real Estate News Europe - Portugal´s wealthiest 10% own 59% of Property Wealth between 2010 and 2025, according to the Households' Wealth study published by Portugal´s Central Bank on October 20th, 2026. Real Estate represented more than 70% of the assets of families below the median and less than 40% of the assets of those in the top 10%, by the end of 2025. The wealthiest families in Portugal have a more diversified asset portfolio, with a greater weighting in equity holdings, whether in publicly traded or privately held companies, and other assets such as debt securities and investment funds. On average, between 2010 and 2025, Real Estate represented 52% of household assets in Portugal, ahead of deposits with 19% and equity holdings with 16%. In the first quarter of 2026, the net wealth of Portuguese families rose to €1.214 billion, that represents 7.6% more than a year earlier. Of that total, €714 billion , that is 59%, was owned by the top 10% wealthiest families in Portugal and €72 billion was owned by households below the median income threshold.
The Gini index, which measures inequality in wealth distribution on a scale of 0 to 100 (where 0 corresponds to perfect equality and 100 to all the wealth in a single family), was 72.5 in Portugal in the first quarter of 2026. In the euro area, the The Gini index was 73.1.
