Portugal news - Renewable energy supplied 82% of electricity consumption in Portugal for the first half of 2024, that is the highest value in 45 years, according to REN.

 

The share of renewable energy consumption by type of energy in Portugal is 39% for hydroelectric power, 28% for wind power, 9% for photovoltaic (PV) energy, and 6% for biomass energy.

 

On the other hand, there was a 19% drop in accumulated consumption of natural gas in Portugal for the first half of 2024, as a result of a 66% drop in the electricity market. Figures registered for the first half of 2024, show that this was the lowest gas consumption since 2003.

 

Portugal’s supply of LNG was carried out entirely from the Sines terminal for the month of June 2024, with the balance of trade through the interconnection with Spain recording high energy exports, equivalent to around 55% of national consumption.
