What is the European Union´s EUROPA AI Large Language Model (LLM)?

The EU will develop an open-source AI Large Language Model (LLM) in the 24 official languages of the European Union, that is expected to rival ChatGPT and is set to outperform the most advanced AI systems currently available.

The EUROPA consortium was awarded the development of the EU´s new AI model by winning the Frontier AI Grand Challenge to develop a frontier AI system with computing capacity exceeding 400 billion parameters — a scale associated with some of the most advanced models in development globally.

The EUROPA AI will be an open-source AI model designed to make next-generation AI technologies accessible to European businesses, researchers, public institutions and developers.

The EUROPA LLM will be developed through the use of up to 2.5% of the entire EuroHPC supercomputing capacity for one year, one of the largest allocations of AI computing resources ever granted by the European Union.

The EUROPA Consortium was created to develop the EU´s future AI Large Language Model (LLM) having a computing capacity equivalent to more than 400 billion parameters.
