American tourists are flocking to Portugal and US tourism in Portugal has grown by more than 16%. North Americans are already the main tourism market for Lisbon’s hotel sector.

Good Morning America on ABC News featured the reasons why Portugal is trending as a tourism destination for Americans. According to reporter Robin Roberts, Portugal is seeing record numbers of American tourists, with figures reaching 2 million tourists from the US in 2023.

According to ABC News, Americans are going to Portugal because of its natural beauties, with so much to see and do, a country full of history, with impressive landmarks such as the Pena Palace in Sintra, great architecture, trending cities including Lisbon and Porto, pristine beaches in the south and even the Douro wine region in the north.

North American tourists represent the fourth largest source of income for hotels in Portugal as a whole and the US tourism market is growing exponentially in 2024. Moreover, an increasing number of North Americans, currently around 10,000, chose to live in Portugal.

The love story of Americans with Portugal is felt in the movie Poor Things with Emma Stone where the soulful Fado music by Portuguese singer Carminho is like a siren’s song attracting more and more tourists from the US to Portugal’s pristine shores.
