News Population Growth Europe - Here are the Top 10 European countries with households having the highest number of children per household in 2025, with 3 children or more per household, according to a report published by Eurostat on May 13, 2026:
France is the European country with the highest number of households with 3 children or more per household in 2025 with 1,1181.8 thousand households, this compares to Malta that is the European country with the lowest number of households having 3 children or more per household with 4.8 thousand households.
How many EU households included children in 2025?
In 2025, out of 203.1 million households in the EU, only 23.4% included children. The European countries with the highest share of households with children, independently of the number of children per household, were Slovakia with 35.4%, Ireland with 30.8% and Cyprus with 28.2%.
In 2025, 50.2% of EU households with children had 1 child, while 37.6% of EU households had 2 children, and 12.2% of EU households had 3 children or more.
Households with 1 child were mainly in Portugal out of 61.8% of all households with children, Bulgaria out of 60.4% of all households with children and Malta out of 59.5% of all households with children.

5 - Poland - had 408.5 thousand households with the highest number of children per household in 2025, with 3 children or more per household.
6 - Romania - had 314.3 thousand households with the highest number of children per household in 2025, with 3 children or more per household.
7 - Netherlands - had 276.4 thousand households with the highest number of children per household in 2025, with 3 children or more per household.
