The new EU law for the safety of drinking tap water aims to improve water resilience and reduce pollution. The new EU law updates the lists of pollutants in surface and groundwaters that are harmful to the environment and to human health.

The new EU law for the safety of drinking tap water now includes pollutants on water quality such as PFAS, pesticides, and pharmaceutical products. For the first time, the EU water safety rules also address microplastics, indicators of antimicrobial resistance, and sensitive groundwater ecosystems.
