The Economist ranks Portugal 2nd best-performing economy in the OECD in 2022 - Portugal Business News The Economist just ranked Portugal as the 2nd best-performing economy in the OECD in 2022. In an article ranking 2022’s unlikely economic winners, Portugal is a shining example in a period that was especially dark, with inflation reaching 10% year-on-year across the developed world and stock-markets plunging by 20%. Despite the bleak economic outlook of most developed countries, there are verified asymmetries with Portugal’s economic performance highlighted by The Economist. In order to evaluate differences between countries’ economic data, The Economist compiled statistics on five indicators for 34 developed nations, namely the GDP, inflation, the inflation breadth, stock-market performance and Government debt. Each country was ranked according to its performance for each indicator in order to obtain an overall indicator score. The country score showed unexpected results… While ushering in 2023, Portugal can look forward to brighter economic prospects based on a solid performance in 2022. Portuguese businesses have registered strong growth and start-ups have done exceptionally well. Lisbon Tech Start-ups are worth EUR 21.4 B in 2022 compared to EUR 816 M in 2016 according to a new report by Dealroom. The combined enterprise value of start-ups founded and headquartered in Lisbon has grown 27 times since 2016. Moreover, the figures for the exports of goods and services have reached historical highs and an increasing number of foreign companies are investing in Portugal. Circular Bioeconomy Project in Portugal - Portugal Business News Researchers from the University of Coimbra in Portugal have joined a team from 14 countries to develop circular bio-based solutions in rural areas, a project funded by the EU. According to João Santos, researcher at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Coimbra: “Rural Europe urgently needs a paradigm shift. With an increasing number of people migrating to urban centers in the last decades, the current demographic distribution is quite uneven. Rural areas are inhabited by 30% of the European population, although they cover more than 80% of the territory.” The BioRural project aims at creating a European Rural Bioeconomy Network to promote small-scale bio-based solutions in rural areas and to increase the share of the Bioeconomy. With an estimated duration of three years and a budget of three million euros, the project includes partners from Germany, Denmark, Slovenia, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Poland and Romania. From Portugal, besides the University of Coimbra, the Biomass Centre for Energy (CBE) is also part of this consortium. Professor José Baranda Ribeiro from the University of Coimbra explained that “the EU's economic activity is largely dependent on linear production systems and non-renewable resources. Although there have been numerous attempts to reduce this dependency, the fact remains that, for example, in 2018 alone, EU states produced 61.8 million tons of plastic.” The consequences of combining a linear economy with widespread urbanization have worsened some of the problems chronically experienced by people in rural areas, namely the high risk of poverty, limited access to basic services and infrastructure, as well as low levels of education. L’impact de Airbnb sur l’économie locale au Portugal - Par Francisco Nobre – Doctorat en Microéconomie appliquée - PBN Actualités Portugal - Au cours de la dernière décennie, les locations à court terme (logements de type Airbnb) sont devenues un sujet très débattu et la compréhension des ramifications économiques complètes de ces plateformes d’hébergement entre pairs s’est transformée en une question de recherche intéressante et fructueuse pour les universitaires.   Explorer l’impact d’Airbnb au Portugal est d’une importance vitale : non seulement ces types de logements ont connu une forte hausse depuis 2014, comme le montre la figure ci-dessous, mais ils ont également soulevé des préoccupations parmi les résidents, en raison de leur effet sur l’augmentation des prix du logement et la réduction de l’offre de logements. En fait, le mois dernier, l’assemblée municipale de Lisbonne a approuvé un référendum local sur l’interdiction des locations à court terme.   Nouvelles locations à court terme à Lisbonne et à Porto (2010-2019) - PBN   Des recherches antérieures ont montré qu’effectivement Airbnb conduit à une hausse des prix des logements, dans des villes comme Lisbonne et Barcelone. Des études ont également identifié le rôle de Airbnb dans la conduite des équipements de loisirs. Par exemple, on a constaté qu’à Madrid, 10 chambres Airbnb dans un quartier ont conduit à l’ouverture d’un autre restaurant.   Cependant, l’impact des locations à court terme sur la performance des entreprises locales est resté largement inexploré. Par conséquent, avec João Pereira dos Santos et Ronize Cruz, nous avons analysé comment Airbnb a façonné les entreprises locales à Lisbonne et à Porto, les deux plus grands centres urbains du pays.   Pour ce faire, nous avons commencé par déterminer le niveau d’exposition à Airbnb, au niveau de la paroisse civile, obtenu par le ratio des nouvelles locations à court terme par rapport au parc immobilier. Nous avons ensuite estimé l’effet de cette exposition sur les indicateurs de rendement des entreprises entre 2016 et 2019.   Nous montrons que l’exposition accrue aux locations à court terme entraîne une augmentation des fermetures d’entreprises, en particulier pour les entreprises à faible productivité. Nous soutenons que cela est vraisemblablement dû à une augmentation des loyers des propriétés commerciales. Les données indiquent également que l’exposition accrue à Airbnb entraîne une augmentation des ventes pour les entreprises axées sur les résidents (épiceries, détaillants) et les entreprises axées sur le tourisme (restaurants, bars, cafés), ces dernières connaissant également une hausse importante du nombre d’employés, salaires et liquidités.   Les quartiers où la part d’hébergement Airbnb est plus élevée sont plus susceptibles de voir des entreprises en phase d’entrée s’orienter vers les besoins touristiques, ce qui pourrait conduire à une séparation claire entre les zones touristiques et résidentielles. Quel est le premier avion portugais dont la production débutera en 2026 ? - PBN Actualités Portugal - Le Portugal est à investir environ 100 millions d’euros pour produire le premier avion portugais, le LUS222.     Quel est le premier avion portugais dont la production débutera en 2026 ?   Le premier avion entièrement produit au Portugal, l’avion LUS 222, sera fabriqué à Ponte de Sor, dans la région de Portalegre, dans l’Alentejo.  Le LUS222 est un avion léger régional dont l’ingénierie est déjà en cours de développement dans la région de l’Alentejo. Le premier avion entièrement portugais aura 19 sièges, 2000 kilos de capacité de fret et une autonomie de 2000 kilomètres.   Un représentant du centre d’ingénierie et de développement CEiiA, qui est l’une des entités impliquées dans le consortium, a déclaré que l’investissement dans le projet de l’avion LUS 222 du Portugal était d’environ 100 millions d’euros.   Le conseil de l’Alentejo et EEA Aircraft, qui est la principale entreprise du consortium, ont signé l’acte pour les droits de surface pour la construction de l’usine qui produira les avions LUS222. La surface totale de l’usine sera d’environ 35,000 mètres carrés, avec une superficie couverte d’environ 18,000 mètres carrés.     Qu’est-ce que le pôle aéronautique de Ponte de Sor au Portugal ?   La municipalité de Ponte de Sor, dans l’Alentejo au Portugal, est un pôle aéronautique qui comprend trois programmes de mobilisation du plan européen pour la relance et la résilience, représentant un total de plus de 200 millions d’euros.   1 -  La production du premier avion du Portugal, le LUS222, fait partie de l’agenda mobilisateur d’Aero.Next qui comprend également la production d’aéronefs sans pilote pour un investissement total de 140 millions d’euros.   2 -  Le programme de mobilisation du Portugal Aero.Next comprend non seulement le premier avion à être entièrement produit au Portugal, l’avion LUS 222, mais aussi la production de systèmes aériens sans pilote (UAS) d’intelligence artificielle. Embraer choisit le Portugal comme hub européen : Le Portugal investit 200 millions d’euros pour 12 avions d’attaque légers A-29N Super Tucano - PBN Actualités Portugal - Le Portugal vient de commander douze avions d’attaque légers A-29N Super Tucano supplémentaires auprès de la société brésilienne Embraer, ce qui représente un investissement d’environ 200 millions d’euros. Avec cette nouvelle commande, le Portugal possèdera 17 avions A-29N Super Tucano et arrive à convaincre Embraer de choisir le Portugal comme hub européen.    L’avion d’attaque léger Embraer A-29N Super Tucano sera partiellement construit au Portugal, avec 75 millions d’euros qui devraient être réinvestis dans l’industrie aérospatiale portugaise.  Cela permettra à Embraer de reconfigurer ses avions A-29N Super Tucano selon les normes et spécifications de l’OTAN en vue de la vente aux pays de l’OTAN. La nouvelle commande d’avions d’attaque légers du Portugal auprès d’Embraer comprend des simulateurs de vol et la logistique.   L’avion Embraer KC-390 a également été reconfiguré au Portugal afin d’être être conforme aux normes et spécifications de l’OTAN.  Le Portugal a commandé cinq avions KC-390 et un simulateur d’Embraer pour une valeur de 850 millions d’euros en 2019, dont deux ont déjà été livrés, afin de remplacer le Hercules C-130.   Lors de la signature du contrat à OGMA, le ministre de la Défense nationale du Portugal a souligné que le rendement financier d’environ 75 millions d’euros que le gouvernement portugais s’attend à obtenir, avec l’achat de douze avions Super Tucano d’Embraer, renforcera l’industrie aérospatiale portugaise, y compris la formation des pilotes au Portugal. Voici une explication de la façon dont le Portugal a développé une technologie de cryptographie quantique qui a le potentiel d’être être mise en œuvre à grande échelle, ainsi qu’une liste des entreprises et des pays qui font partie du consortium du projet DISCRETION :     Qu’est-ce que le projet de défense de l’UE DISCRETION ?  Le nouveau projet européen de technologies quantiques pour la défense européenne, intitulé DISCRETION pour les communications sécurisées SDN perturbatrices pour la défense européenne, fournira des technologies perturbatrices de réseaux définis par logiciel (SDN) et de distribution de clés quantiques.  Combiné aux réseaux optiques existants, le projet permettra de construire un réseau hautement sécurisé pour des services d’opérations tactiques militaires avancés, ce qui créera une certaine autonomie pour les forces de défense européennes face aux nouvelles menaces cybernétiques à l’ère post-quantique.     Comment le Portugal utilisera-t-il les technologies quantiques pour le projet de défense DISCRETION de l’UE? Le Bureau de la sécurité nationale et la Défense nationale du Portugal ont investi dans les communications optiques et quantiques du futur, permettant un échange sécurisé et robuste des données sensibles.   QSCRIPT, une initiative antérieure soutenue par l’Office national de la sécurité et l’état-major général des Forces armées portugaises, a permis le développement d’un système de communication basé sur des machines de chiffrement et des processus de production de clés cryptographiques. Deux sites du ministère portugais de la Défense nationale, situés à 4,5 km l’un de l’autre, ont été reliés par une liaison quasi-quantique utilisant une technologie portugaise que DISCRETION améliorera.   DISCRETION soutient le projet de coopération structurée permanent (PESCO) et le Cyber Academia and Innovation Hub de l’UE (CAIH), dirigés par le Portugal.  Ces initiatives faciliteront la recherche et le développement de solutions et de technologies innovatrices pour la cybersécurité, favoriseront la formation et fourniront les nouvelles compétences requises pour maîtriser ces nouveaux systèmes cryptographiques.   Au cours de l’exercice REPMUS qui a été mené en septembre par la marine portugaise en collaboration avec l’OTAN, le potentiel des communications radio définies par logiciel (SDR) de DISCRETION a été démontré, en recevant des clés cryptographiques générées par la technologie de distribution de clés quantiques à variables continues (CV-QKD) pour protéger les renseignements sensibles.
