ree

Portugal news - Portuguese green mobility company Via Verde just won a European tender to operate toll collection via satellite in the Netherlands.

Via Verde, that is majority-owned by Portuguese group Brisa, is leading The Triangle consortium that has been selected by the Dutch transport authority (RDW) to implement a new electronic toll collection system for heavy goods vehicles. The Portuguese groundbreaking technology will operate via an identifier placed on vehicles, with billing being done via satellite.

This is the group’s second contract in the Netherlands, and it demonstrates the Portuguese group’s capacity to innovate and be at the forefront of technology in the mobility sector, namely with satellite mobility billing.

All trucks operating in the Netherlands from July 2026 will have to register on a platform and then collect their identification card in order to be able to drive. The toll will be calculated based on the kilometers traveled and the size of the vehicle.

Via Verde, that is one of Portugal’s most iconic national brands, has positioned Portugal as the first country in the world with an integrated non-stop electronic toll network, providing sustainable mobility solutions that allow for an integrated response to traffic needs and urban mobility.
