Portugal news - The inaugural flight of the first 100% electric aircraft certified in the EU will take off today in Portugal, in what is deemed to be a historic event for aviation in the EU.

The inaugural flight of the Velis Electro will take place at the Viseu airfield of IFA (International Flight Academy), that has obtained exclusivity for Portugal.

The Velis Electro aircraft, that is manufactured by Pipistrel, a Textron Aviation company, is powered by two water-cooled lithium batteries providing a flight autonomy of 50 minutes. It is the only fully electric aircraft in the world certified by EASA – European Union Aviation Safety Agency, that represents a significant milestone towards sustainable aviation with a lower environmental impact.

The new fully electric aircraft certified in the EU promises to transform the global aviation sector, as it combines sustainability and cutting-edge technology.
