Here is Portugal´s Fitch Rating in September 2026:
The Fitch ratings agency has upgraded Portugal's rating from A to A+ on September 5th, 2026.
This is the fourth rating upgrade for the Portuguese Republic in just two years, that demonstrates the confidence of international investors in the Portuguese economy, according to Portugal´s Ministry of Finance.
S&P also upgraded Portugal´s Ratings - once in February 2025 from A- to A and another upgrade in August 2025 from A to A+.
How is Portugal´s economy doing in 2026?
Portugal's "trajectory of public debt reduction," according to Fitch is more optimistic than the government´s outlook itself and points to a public debt ratio of 87% by the end of 2026, according to the Fitch Ratings Agency. The credit rating agency also praised Portugal´s "considerably stronger budget balances, underpinned by a strong political commitment to fiscal discipline," pointing to a surplus of 0.1% in 2026.
In terms of Portugal´s economic growth, Fitch believes the country could end 2026 with its GDP rising by 2.1%, "continuing a growth trend above the Eurozone," and that its "main driver is investment."

Budgetary balance and the reduction of public debt, while simultaneously adopting reforms and measures that increase the productivity and competitiveness of the Portuguese economy, allowing for greater exports and economic growth.
How does Portugal´s Rating compare to that of other European countries?
Portugal now has the same rating as France, Belgium, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovenia and Malta, with only 6 countries in the Eurozone currently having a higher rating, according to Fitch Ratings.
