Portugal news - Where in Portugal is there a huge boom in new local tourist accommodation? In the last two months, there has been a rush to obtain licenses for local tourist accommodation in Portugal and around 5.400 new licenses were obtained, that is more than double the amount in the corresponding period last year, but where in Portugal has there been a huge boom in new local tourist accommodation?
Portugal’s sunny Algarve has a new tourist hotspot, with Faro leading in the number of new local tourist accommodation, "alojamento local", licenses obtained in the last two months. In Faro only, 2.500 new local tourist accommodation have just been put on the Airbnb map.
In upmarket Lisbon, there are now 665 new local tourist accommodation in the last two months only. Meanwhile, Porto is also trending with 323 new local tourist accommodation available.
This surge in new local tourist accommodation in Portugal is due to the Government’s decision to go forward with restrictive measures to curb the number of Airbnb properties, measures that are yet to be implemented.
