- What are the opportunities for Gaming startups in Portugal?
Portugal news - In recent years, Portugal has emerged as a dynamic and attractive startup destination. With a supportive government, a growing talent pool, and a high quality of life, the country offers numerous opportunities for entrepreneurs, leading to over 4,000 startups and scale-ups calling Portugal home. The video game and tech industries are particularly thriving in Portugal, but the nation's impact on the global games industry is seriously overlooked. Figures from Portugal’s Trade and Investment Agency, AICEP Portugal Global, show the country’s video game industry is expected to reach revenues of around $258 million in 2024 , with an annual growth rate exceeding 11% by 2027. The country has a growing number of successful game studios and tech companies, with Madeira-based cluster eGames Lab leading the way in fostering innovation within the space. From augmented reality changing how football fans watch live games to applying entertainment and gamification to recycling and waste management to better protect the planet, eGames Lab is leading the way in fostering innovation within the space. The unique nature of video games in this context is their ability to bring together people and researchers from many different areas and backgrounds. This is where eGames Lab has curated collaborations between 22 private and public entities, bringing together a scientific board of over 60 academic professionals (that includes 18 PhDs, 14 MScs, and 12 post-docs) from multiple countries – including Portugal, Brazil, and Canada. The consortium has support from games industry giants such as Sony PlayStation, Amazon’s AWS, and Alienware, as well as famed educational institutions like Carnegie-Mellon University in the US and New Zealand’s University of Canterbury. How these entities can come together showcases the opportunities for gaming startups in Portugal. Through the support of a partner such as eGames Lab, which has already created 112 jobs and invested almost €30 million into the industry, startups can grow at a local and international level. "Portugal is fast becoming a hub for gaming innovation and growth, with a talented workforce, and a collaborative ecosystem that brings together global industry leaders and academic excellence,” says Cláudio Pestana, Project Manager at eGames Lab. “The success of eGames Lab, in particular, exposes the potential for startups to thrive locally while reaching international markets. With our strategic partnerships and investment in talent we are investing in shaping the future of gaming." #portugalnews #newsportugal #newsgamingcompaniesportugal #opportunitiesforgamingstartupsinportugal #gamingindustryportugal #AICEPPortugalGlobal #eGamesLab #gamingcompaniesportugal #gamingstartupsportugal

- What is the real estate market trend in Portugal for 2024?
Portugal real estate news – This is the property market outlook for Portugal showing the house prices in 2023 and the real estate market trend for 2024. What are the Portugal house prices in 2023? Portugal house prices have almost doubled between 2010 and 2023, and the upwards trend in property prices in Portugal is opposed to the fall in house prices in other EU countries that have been affected by rising bank loan interest rates. While the ECB interest rate policy has affected negatively most EU countries, house prices in Portugal have been increasing at a fast pace. “As a result, housing prices decreased in many eurozone countries between the third quarter of 2022 and the second quarter of 2023, but they still increased in Portugal, unlike most other countries”, notes Eric Dor, the director of Economic Studies at IESEG. What is the real estate market trend in Portugal for 2024? The real estate market trend in Portugal shows an exponential increase in house prices compared to other EU countries. House prices in Portugal have increased by 95.5% between 2010 and 2023, compared to a 79% increase in Germany, a 46.7% increase in the Netherlands, a 33% increase in France, and a 0.9% increase in Spain according to the IESEG School of Management. The huge increase in house prices in Portugal compared to other EU countries seems to be concentrated on existing properties rather than on new developments, according to data from Eurostat. The average price of new homes increased by 3.8% in Portugal between 2010 and 2023, compared to 1.7% in the Netherlands and 0.5% in France and a decrease of 5.8% in Germany. House prices in Portugal have increased at a much higher rate compared to other EU countries and it may be due to the special tax regime for non-habitual residents. However, this tax regime is ending at the end of 2023 and this may have an impact on house prices in 2024. The governor of the Bank of Portugal has however stated that he is not completely convinced that programs such as the non-habitual resident tax regime are the cause of the significant increase in house prices in Portugal. It is therefore expected that house prices in Portugal will continue rising, though at a slower pace, in 2024 with the end of the special tax regime for foreign residents. #portugalnews #newsportugal #portugalrealestatenews #propertynewsportugal #whatistherealestatemarkettrendinportugalfor2024 #whatisthepropertymarketoutlookforportugalin2023 #whatistherealestatemarkettrendinportugalfor2024 #whataretheportugalhousepricesin2023 #willhousepricesinportugalcontinuerisingin2024 #willpropertypricesinportugalriseorfallin2024

Portugal has become such a popular destination for American tourists that the US is close to overtaking the United Kingdom as Portugal’s No 1 source market. Portugal received over 1 million American tourists just for the first half of 2024. The popularity of Portugal as a destination for American tourists is confirmed by data from the Statistics office that shows a 15% increase in the number of tourists from the US for the first 6 months of 2024 compared to the same period the previous year. For the first 6 months of 2024, Portugal received 1.2 million British tourists, that is only 119,000 more tourists than from the United States.
